And the most important thing about us is not which denomination we belong to, though we do have one. It is not a our history or back story, though we have one of those, too. The most important thing about us not even our traditional doctrinal statement or set of beliefs. Yes, we have one of those as well.
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do yousay that I am?”
Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
[Matthew 16:13-16, NKJV]
The most important thing about us is who we say that Jesus is TODAY.
To some, He was John the Baptist – A Good Teacher of righteousness, morality and repentance.
To some, He was Elijah – A Miracle worker who could do some really cool tricks
To some, He was Jeremiah – A Prophet who points to something big in the future
But to us, Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. He is everything to us. In Him is Life and freedom and forgiveness and mercy and grace. And as Peter would say elsewhere – “Where else shall we go? You have the word’s of life!”
That is the most important thing you need to know ABOUT US. Everything else flows through this simple truth…
